Life Lessons, Legacy & Cupcakes: Reflections from My Bold Journey Interview
A few weeks ago I sat down with Bold Journey to talk about life, lessons, and legacy. That interview gave me an opportunity to look back on why I started Baking with Melissa, how I’ve grown, and what I hope to pass on to families and children I work with. As I reread the conversation, I realized how many themes from my journey show up in each baking party I host.
“I once heard a quote by Richard Simmons that has stayed with me: “If you believe in YOU, all of your dreams will come true.” Those words became a little anchor for me in the early days. While I was creating my business and waiting for that very first client, I kept coming back to them. I didn’t have any proof yet that it would all work out, but holding onto that reminder helped me keep going until the doors started to open.“
That line stuck with me because it embodies what I try to bring to every party…confidence, possibility, and joy.

Lessons That Inspire the Parties I Host
Resilience & Adaptability
In the Bold Journey interview, I shared how I’ve faced seasons of uncertainty and change. Running a small business means constantly adapting. That same spirit carries into my events: if something comes up, I pivot… changing the flow, adjusting challenges, and keeping energy high.
Serving Others with Heart
I talked about wanting to leave a legacy rooted in service. Each baking birthday party in Los Angeles or cupcake decorating party I host is built on putting people first. From customizing themes to cheering on every creation, I design each moment to feel uplifting.
Creative Consistency
Having run Baking with Melissa since 2011 means I’ve learned that impact comes from showing up again and again. That consistency is how you build trust, reputation, and a community. My 5-star reviews on Yelp and Google remind me it matters how many times you show up with your best.

How This Shapes Your Party Experience
Each time you book a cupcake wars party, cooking birthday party, or baking birthday party, you benefit from that foundation. I bring everything needed (except tables), design challenges to spark creativity, and make sure every participant is celebrated! We don’t focus on winners or losers so everyone feels celebrated!
Because I’ve walked the path of imperfection, growth, and service, I’m able to breathe compassion into every event. I don’t just host parties, I aim to create moments of pride, connection, and lasting memories.
